Pedro and Enrique Brol are the owners and operators of Finca San Francisco Cotzal, located in the Triángulo Ixil region of Quiché, Guatemala. Their farm spans an impressive 2,200 hectares and benefits from a range of unique microclimates. With an average elevation of 1,400 meters above sea level, the farm experiences warm days and cool nights—the perfect conditions for cultivating sweet, dense cherry.

This coffee is classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB), a designation that refers to beans grown at 1,200 meters or higher. At these altitudes, cooler temperatures slow the maturation of the coffee cherry, allowing for more concentrated sugars and resulting in a denser, higher-quality bean.

Guatemala’s reputation for exceptional coffee continues to grow, thanks in part to the diverse group of producers across the country. More and more smallholder farmers are cultivating at high elevations, pushing quality ever higher and adding to the complexity of Guatemala’s coffee landscape.
