Named for the endangered Indonesian pangolin (Trenggiling), this coffee showcases a classic Indonesian cup profile: full-bodied, earthy, and spicy, with rich notes of dark chocolate and herbal undertones. This unique flavor profile is rarely matched by other origins and is the result of Indonesia’s distinct geography, soil, climate, varietals, and its signature wet-hulled processing method.

Our Trenggiling Wet Hulled coffee is a gamechanger for Indonesian coffee production. By streamlining the supply chain, we reduce costs for customers and ensure that farmers receive a greater share of profits, eliminating the often circuitous export routes traditionally used.

Most people associate the name “Mandheling” with high-quality Indonesian coffees. While the name suggests the coffee comes from Sumatra, in reality, it can be applied to any coffee traded through Medan, Indonesia’s primary export hub for decades.

Wet Hulling Process (Giling Basah)

Indonesia is world-renowned for its unique wet hulling process, or giling basah, whose origins trace back to Aceh in the late 1970s. The process is roughly as follows:

Cherry is harvested and pulped near the farm using small, hand-cranked or motorized pulpers.
The coffee is then fermented overnight in small tanks, buckets, or bags.
The next morning, the beans are washed with clean water.
The parchment coffee is sun-dried for half a day to two days, depending on weather conditions, until the skin is dry enough to facilitate parchment removal.
